Just Needing a Foot in the Door

On Monday I drove to Martorell (about 30 minutes from home) to pick up Ana Cecilia Manco Pérez, or "Ceci" to stay in our home for a few days.

Ceci grew up in Peru and currently has Argentinian nationality. Ceci had applied as a new staff member to work with Agape here in Spain, but was still waiting for the final word from our leadership on her acceptance.

Ceci is a professor, an author and recent graduate of  a Masters program in Madrid in AudioVisual Communications. While she has many gifts to offer, she has one major handicap: she is unknown to the world of Agape and Agape is new to her as well.

In December, during her interview, the advice she received was that it would be important for her to learn more about the various ministries of Agape. As a result, I offered our home near Barcelona as a place to stay so that she could visit the staff and ministries in Barcelona.

On Wednesday, she was able to attend the weekly "co-working" gathering in the heart of Barcelona and meet staff from Athletes in Action (sports ministry), agape+ (homeless ministry), Family Life, SHINE (teengagers ministry). In addition, she was able to participate with the agape+ team on their weekly visit  with homeless in the city that afternoon.

During her stay here, Ceci received the good news that she HAS BEEN ACCEPTED as a new staff member with Agape and will begin her training in February.

Please pray for Ceci as she waits for the New Staff Training to begin:

  • Pray for her time with the Lord during this transition time.
  • Pray that the Lord would raise up her Financial and Prayer Support Team quickly
  • Pray that God would open the doors in Agape where Ceci can use her gifts to advance the gospel.

Meet the Monkey on Mondays!

Every week, heck, every day God is working in our lives....but how aware are we? How have you seen Him show up this week? One struggle in communicating regularly was related to the "slow" nature of ministry. Sometimes, it is hard to see what God is doing. One rationale that dominated  my thinking is that maybe it is that God is working much more slowly here, so rather share news each month, I may have to wait, 6, 9, 12 months to have a story to tell. However, as I make this shift to share a "blip" from each day, it has revolutionized the way I see God's work here, in my personal life and in ministry. Immigrant moms advancing together

An American, a Brazilian, a Spaniard and 9 Moroccan women walk into a neighborhood center....it sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? God has a great sense of humor! Let me tell you how this story works out.... My church in Spain has an amazing outreach ministry in a city neighborhood highly populated by Moroccan immigrants. While immigration has increased globally, Catalunya has one of the highest percentages of immigration world-wide.  This drastic and relatively rapid change is historic and also traumatic for a Spanish system that is not prepared to receive so many immigrants. We personally have seen the burdening effects of immigration in our schools, at our hospitals and in our neighborhoods.  Many of those who come from Morocco are the poorest of the poor. They arrive looking for work and a better life. They come without having learned the language.
