Gema Álvarez-Adding a Female Voice to Leadership

In the last year, Gema Álvarez, our LDHR Director, has also joined Ágape's National Leadership Team (NLT) along with 2 other women and one additional man. The choice to include women on this team brings a new dimension to what was once a male-only group.

Gema is gifted in public speaking and inspiring others to consider how God wants to use them in the Great Commission. She also brings an element of wisdom and discernment in addition to years of experience as she leads the staff application process.

We are different from one another and I have no doubt that the Lord brought us together on purpose to sharpen one another. God has definitely used Gema to hone my character and to sharpen me into a more effective servant for Him.

This week during our LDHR meeting, we discussed important details that should be included in a job description for every National Minstry Director. One important, over-arching theme that Gema and Rex have been pushing for over the last few years is the importance of the spiritual in each staff person's life, especially the leaders. One would think that this idea goes without saying in an evangelistic organization, but passion for ministry and just plain busyness can distract and suck the life out of full-time Christian workers, especially Christian leaders.

I am grateful that God has raised up Gema to add richness to the NLT and to keep the most important thing, our love for Jesus, in the forefront.

Pray for Gema...
-that God would continue to grow in her leadership abilities
-that God would use her to grow our ministry on a national level
-pray for the next NLT meeting that will take place on Wed. Feb 5 in Madrid.
-for peace and great faith for Gema in the next few months as new challenges come her way

Meet the Monkey on Mondays!

Every week, heck, every day God is working in our lives....but how aware are we? How have you seen Him show up this week? One struggle in communicating regularly was related to the "slow" nature of ministry. Sometimes, it is hard to see what God is doing. One rationale that dominated  my thinking is that maybe it is that God is working much more slowly here, so rather share news each month, I may have to wait, 6, 9, 12 months to have a story to tell. However, as I make this shift to share a "blip" from each day, it has revolutionized the way I see God's work here, in my personal life and in ministry. A specific tool I am using to deliver my messages and stories to you across the ocean is MailChimp, an email marketing platform online; and, although I am sure that I am not getting nearly as much out of MailChimp as I could, but just the fact to be getting any news out at all is a big step for me. Immigrant moms advancing together

An American, a Brazilian, a Spaniard and 9 Moroccan women walk into a neighborhood center....it sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? God has a great sense of humor! Let me tell you how this story works out.... My church in Spain has an amazing outreach ministry in a city neighborhood highly populated by Moroccan immigrants. While immigration has increased globally, Catalunya has one of the highest percentages of immigration world-wide.  This drastic and relatively rapid change is historic and also traumatic for a Spanish system that is not prepared to receive so many immigrants. We personally have seen the burdening effects of immigration in our schools, at our hospitals and in our neighborhoods.  Many of those who come from Morocco are the poorest of the poor. They arrive looking for work and a better life. They come without having learned the language.
