In March 2021, Pep y Silvia participated online along with 25 other couples in the S.O.M. (Seminario de Orientación al Matrimonio), our pre-marriage weekend conference offered to engaged couples and recently married couples throughout Spain.

In April of 2022, although they had a previously scheduled commitment, they participated through video by sharing the benefits they received through their experience with the S.O.M.

Because of their incredible communication abilities as well as their maturity and love for the Lord, we challenged them to consider giving one of the talks at the most recent S.O.M. What a great decision that was.

There were 12 couples this year participating on-site in Barcelona AND simultaneously online. Pep and Silvia were amazing, not only in their talk about Marriage and Society in the 21st Century, but also in their servant hearts, connecting with couples and serving until the very end of the conference and then getting into their car to make the 3-hour drive back to their home in Zaragoza.


The event was a huge success. When asked what they liked, the couples responded to an evaluation saying....

  • It has been very interactive and we have felt involved even participating online. It was nice that some of the speakers zoomed in as well. We liked Josep's talks a lot :)
  • The kindness and sincerity of the people involved in the organization and those who spoke. 
  • I liked realizing that there are certain patterns in my family that I can change with my partner and that with the tools they have given us we will not put them into practice.
  • The quality content
  • Being able to do it in person together with other couples who are also getting married and being able to hear about such practical and useful topics for our relationship
  • The selection of topics. Varied and important.
  • The themes were so relevant and necessary for current times
  • The variety of speakers.
  • Excellent
  • We loved it! :D Thank you very much for all the effort you have made. Now we have a few tools from here on out.
  • Very complete. Affordable price (online).
  • I can't think of anyone who wouldn't benefit from this fantastic resource.
  • They talk about issues that we may be avoiding and in encourages us both to reflect.
  • It has been a blessing and because in many churches this type of preparation for marriage is lacking.

 

  
  

  

Please pray for the 12 couples that participated, that God would continue to guide them to grow and prioritize their marriage relationship.

Also, pray for Pep and Silvia, that He would continue to burden their hearts for marriage and family ministry and to consider what role, if any, they might play with FamilyLife Spain. (I would LOVE to have them commit as official volunteers or even to join staff with us one day!)

Meet the Monkey on Mondays!

Every week, heck, every day God is working in our lives....but how aware are we? How have you seen Him show up this week? One struggle in communicating regularly was related to the "slow" nature of ministry. Sometimes, it is hard to see what God is doing. One rationale that dominated  my thinking is that maybe it is that God is working much more slowly here, so rather share news each month, I may have to wait, 6, 9, 12 months to have a story to tell. However, as I make this shift to share a "blip" from each day, it has revolutionized the way I see God's work here, in my personal life and in ministry. A specific tool I am using to deliver my messages and stories to you across the ocean is MailChimp, an email marketing platform online; and, although I am sure that I am not getting nearly as much out of MailChimp as I could, but just the fact to be getting any news out at all is a big step for me. Immigrant moms advancing together

An American, a Brazilian, a Spaniard and 9 Moroccan women walk into a neighborhood center....it sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? God has a great sense of humor! Let me tell you how this story works out.... My church in Spain has an amazing outreach ministry in a city neighborhood highly populated by Moroccan immigrants. While immigration has increased globally, Catalunya has one of the highest percentages of immigration world-wide.  This drastic and relatively rapid change is historic and also traumatic for a Spanish system that is not prepared to receive so many immigrants. We personally have seen the burdening effects of immigration in our schools, at our hospitals and in our neighborhoods.  Many of those who come from Morocco are the poorest of the poor. They arrive looking for work and a better life. They come without having learned the language.
