Upcoming New Staff Training in Málaga

Hello dear friends!

In just one week Aaron and I will travel to Malaga for a weekend retreat-style gathering from Sept. 8-10, where we will join my LDHR teammates, Rex Winn and Gema Alvarez to help to welcome and orient our 2 newest candidates for full-time staff: MAURICO and MATU, all of whom, coincidentally, are from Latin America, specifically México and Argentina.

I wanted to request extra prayer support over the next week that the Lord would orchestrate all the details for our time together. Would you be able to commit to pray daily over the next 10 days?  Please let me know!

Below are some specific prayer requests...

We would like to invote you to pray for a key event that is coming up right around the corner. From Sept 8-10, in Coín, near Málaga, Spain, the LDHR (Leadership Development and Human Resources) team will lead a training time for our most recent new staff.

We are aware that in the midst of a job well done, it is truly God who prepares the people that He has chosen to serve Him in whatever role and whatever context. For this event, there are two staff candidates who are preparing to work with the university students. Also participating in this event is the wife of one of the candidates, herself a long-time staff woman who serves with the university ministry.

Some specific prayer requests include:

*Pray for the hearts of the new staff who are in the process of applying, that they would be open and available to learn whatever God wants to show them at this moment in their lives.
*Pray for understanding and motivation to partner in the work of helping to fulfill the Great Commission, Agape's misson and the specific ministry area that they are applying for.
*Pray that God would create a sense of welcoming and family while we are together.
*Pray that these new staff would be able to integrate well to already functioning staff teams once they complete the application process and support raising period.
*Pray for the staff who are organizing and teaching the various topics during these 3 days of orientation. Pray that we would work well together as a team.
*Pray for the preparation and logistics of the event: travel, technology, food, communication.
*Pray for Aaron who must accompany me. (He will be the only child present.) Pray that we would be able to find appropriate activities to keep him learning, growing and entertained during this weekend.

We truly value so much the partnership of people like you to pray for and support God's work in Spain. If it's possible we would like to ask you to pray daily between now and the end of this training event, the 10th of September.

Meet the Monkey on Mondays!

Every week, heck, every day God is working in our lives....but how aware are we? How have you seen Him show up this week? One struggle in communicating regularly was related to the "slow" nature of ministry. Sometimes, it is hard to see what God is doing. One rationale that dominated  my thinking is that maybe it is that God is working much more slowly here, so rather share news each month, I may have to wait, 6, 9, 12 months to have a story to tell. However, as I make this shift to share a "blip" from each day, it has revolutionized the way I see God's work here, in my personal life and in ministry. A specific tool I am using to deliver my messages and stories to you across the ocean is MailChimp, an email marketing platform online; and, although I am sure that I am not getting nearly as much out of MailChimp as I could, but just the fact to be getting any news out at all is a big step for me. Immigrant moms advancing together

An American, a Brazilian, a Spaniard and 9 Moroccan women walk into a neighborhood center....it sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? God has a great sense of humor! Let me tell you how this story works out.... My church in Spain has an amazing outreach ministry in a city neighborhood highly populated by Moroccan immigrants. While immigration has increased globally, Catalunya has one of the highest percentages of immigration world-wide.  This drastic and relatively rapid change is historic and also traumatic for a Spanish system that is not prepared to receive so many immigrants. We personally have seen the burdening effects of immigration in our schools, at our hospitals and in our neighborhoods.  Many of those who come from Morocco are the poorest of the poor. They arrive looking for work and a better life. They come without having learned the language.
