Right Place At The Right Time

The Good News: They found it! It was like striking gold. The workers on the construction site of the Ça-Ira Children´s Home in Haiti had found a new water source for a well.

The Bad News: The water still needed to be treated to guarantee the health of the children and staff who currently live in the orphanage.

Soon, this need will cease to be a concern. Within a few weeks, our children at the home will not need to worry about the quality of the water that they drink or bathe with.

As we filed into the conference room at Optima Renovables, a renewable energy company located in Terrassa, Spain, we were eager to hear their response to participate in the needs at the children´s home in Haiti. The directors were willing AND eager to donate a special water purification system to GAiN Spain to be used at the orphanage in Haiti. (pictured below)


It´s a system with the latest technology and has the ability to purify 7000 liters of water a day, which is more than sufficient to cover the needs of the entire center. One of the significant aspects of this system is that it works completely independently through solar energy. Because it has solar panels, there is no need for diesel fuel nor a generator. Perfect for Haiti where the reconstruction of the country and its basic services is slow in coming.

Not only the Optima Renovables company grant the machine at cost, but they also took the responsibility to look for the particular donors to cover its expense, which means that it is a completely free gift for the orphanage. We are very grateful to this company for such a generous act and for having trusted us to ensure the arrive of this very valuable tool to those who need it most. It has already been shipped to Haiti. Please pray that it will be released from customs to arrive on-site at Ça-Ira as soon as possible.

This is an important moment for these kids: with the basic need for clean water being met, they will be able to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Meet the Monkey on Mondays!

Every week, heck, every day God is working in our lives....but how aware are we? How have you seen Him show up this week? One struggle in communicating regularly was related to the "slow" nature of ministry. Sometimes, it is hard to see what God is doing. One rationale that dominated  my thinking is that maybe it is that God is working much more slowly here, so rather share news each month, I may have to wait, 6, 9, 12 months to have a story to tell. However, as I make this shift to share a "blip" from each day, it has revolutionized the way I see God's work here, in my personal life and in ministry. A specific tool I am using to deliver my messages and stories to you across the ocean is MailChimp, an email marketing platform online; and, although I am sure that I am not getting nearly as much out of MailChimp as I could, but just the fact to be getting any news out at all is a big step for me. Immigrant moms advancing together

An American, a Brazilian, a Spaniard and 9 Moroccan women walk into a neighborhood center....it sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? God has a great sense of humor! Let me tell you how this story works out.... My church in Spain has an amazing outreach ministry in a city neighborhood highly populated by Moroccan immigrants. While immigration has increased globally, Catalunya has one of the highest percentages of immigration world-wide.  This drastic and relatively rapid change is historic and also traumatic for a Spanish system that is not prepared to receive so many immigrants. We personally have seen the burdening effects of immigration in our schools, at our hospitals and in our neighborhoods.  Many of those who come from Morocco are the poorest of the poor. They arrive looking for work and a better life. They come without having learned the language.
